The country's tourism, marine and business sectors provide a starting point for investors considering a new venture, an acquisition or a development proposal.
The Business Hub assists with initial enquiries and introductions, helping you establish what information is available before evaluating a proposal.
Assessing an opportunity
A meaningful review begins with the identity of the project owner and the legal rights being offered. It should explain how capital will be used, who controls delivery and how an investor would receive income or recover their investment.
For a development project, land rights, planning permission, infrastructure and environmental requirements may be central to viability. For an operating business, financial statements, contracts and existing liabilities deserve equal attention.
Government participation and approvals
Government involvement should be identified precisely. An expression of support, an investment incentive and a binding contractual commitment have different legal effects.

Investors should obtain the relevant documents and assess the authority of the body entering into an agreement. The Antigua and Barbuda Investment Authority(opens in a new tab) provides information about investment facilitation and incentives. Applications for concessions are considered under the applicable framework; a project should not assume an exemption before the necessary approval has been secured.
Projects associated with citizenship
An investment qualifies for the Citizenship by Investment Programme only if it satisfies the programme's requirements. Approval of a geographical development area does not establish that every property or project within it is eligible.
The specific project's status and the proposed investment must be checked with the CIU.
An informed investment decision
Obtain independent legal, financial and technical advice appropriate to the proposal. A project description or introduction does not guarantee a return, completion date or future resale value.
